BIWABIK — Iron Range Today recently joined a statewide news partnership effort started by the Minnesota Star Tribune to share content among news organizations across the state.

The Star Tribune launched the news partnership in October through a grant from the Google News Initiative and technical support through Distributed Media Lab.

Iron Range Today will be a contributing partner and host site to the network, with the network’s State Politics and Minnesota State News collections featured on its homepage.

“Supporting and spotlighting local news across Greater Minnesota recognizes the great work journalists are doing everyday, often with limited resources to serve their communities,” said Jerry Burnes, co-founder of Iron Range Today. “The Minnesota Star Tribune has one of the largest platforms for media in the state, and by providing access to its reporting and these outlets outside the Twin Cities, all of our readers have an opportunity to learn more about each other, our communities and our lifestyles in a more meaningful way.”

Iron Range Today readers can expect to find stories from the Minnesota Star Tribune and other news partner organizations through the collections.

The Minnesota Star Tribune launched the network after a rebranding effort in August as part of its plans to expand coverage of Greater Minnesota, which included hiring regional reporters and creating outposts across the state, including Duluth.

Leadership at the paper said they plan to broaden the content sharing network, offer subscription bundling and share training resources for journalists across the state.

“The Minnesota Star Tribune is committed to producing, promoting and supporting quality journalism across our state,” said Steve Grove, Publisher and CEO of The Minnesota Star Tribune. “This statewide news partnership is designed to buoy local publishers while demonstrating our commitment to and investment in covering Greater Minnesota, providing for more robust and comprehensive coverage across our state.”
