Our goal is provide thoughtful, in-depth reporting combined with the human element of storytelling synonymous with local news. As a community-focused outlet, we are free: No ads. No paywalls. Jerry Burnes
Co-founder
Jerry is an award-winning editor, reporter and photographer in Minnesota, North Dakota and Illinois, most recently as editor of the Mesabi Tribune. He was previously the editor of the Williston Herald covering North Dakota’s historic oil boom. In 2020, he was named an outstanding political reporter by the Washington Post’s The Fix. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northern Illinois University and a masters in communications from NIU.
Leah Ryan
Co-founder
Leah is an award-winning reporter in Minnesota, most recently at the Mesabi Tribune. She has been recognized for her feature reporting and statewide in Minnesota for a series exploring the opioid epidemic on the Iron Range. In 2016-17, she was named the Dave Pyle New Journalist of the Year among daily newspapers by the Minnesota Newspaper Association. Leah has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Concordia College in Moorhead and a masters in communication from Northern Illinois University.
