Maegen Bothwell, finance director for the city of Virginia, was placed on paid administrative leave Tuesday following a closed session of the city council.
The city’s livestream of the meeting ended after the closed session for her performance review, but the public portion reconvened afterward and was not part of the stream.
Bothwell had chosen to have the review done in public, and City Clerk Pam LaBine told Iron Range Today on Wednesday that the video would be uploaded to Virginia’s YouTube page.
Sources informed Iron Range Today late Tuesday that Bothwell was placed on paid leave pending a Loudermill hearing. The vote was 5-2.
A Loudermill hearing is a required pre-disciplinary meeting for public-sector employees to respond to allegations before they face termination, suspension or demotion.
It’s unclear if Bothwell’s status is connected to the city’s phantom $3.7 million in designated sales tax funds that brought on a forensic audit, or Virginia’s overall budget situation.
