Hoyt Lakes became the latest city designated as a drought warning response area by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The city public utilities department issued a release on its Facebook page Wednesday afternoon. Conservation efforts will begin Aug. 10 and follow similar designations Tuesday in the Duluth area. 

“Lawn and garden watering will be restricted to every other day,” the city wrote. “These conservation measures will be in place until further notice from the MN DNR.”

City officials are asking residents to keep watering between the hours of 6-10 a.m. and 6-10 p.m.  to reduce the amount of evaporation. 

Biwabik City Administrator Michael Schultz said the city also received a similar notice from the DNR. The city of Gilbert posted a notice for water management on its website this week.
