Our People
These are the people making Iron Range Today happen. The newsroom is comprised of volunteers, freelance reporters and led by Editor Jerry Burnes. Iron Range Today board members are not compensated for their work. [See Board disclosures and affiliations.]
Jerry Burnes, Chair & Editor of Iron Range Today
Jerry is the former editor of the Mesabi Tribune. He’s won numerous journalism awards in Minnesota, North Dakota and Illinois. He currently works full-time in photography and digital media.
He is a Wilmington, Illinois native and holds a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. Jerry moved to the Iron Range in 2015 and was editor of the Mesabi Tribune until 2021.
For Iron Range Today, Jerry also serves as the editor, lead reporter, content producer, social media manager and IT department.

Mitzi Moe, Vice Chair
Mitzi is a retired former newspaper publisher living in Hoyt Lakes. She was the former publisher of the Williston Herald and Whapeton Daily News in North Dakota, among other positions at the Mesabi Tribune in Minnesota. She was a former board member for the North Dakota Newspaper Association.
Mitzi will be helping guide Iron Range Today in fundraising, advertising/sponsorships and events, while continuing to mentor the Iron Range Today team as she did when hiring Jerry in Williston.

Leah Ryan, Treasurer
Leah is a former reporter at the Mesabi Tribune. She was named the New Journalist of the Year in 2017 by the Minnesota Newspaper Association and has a number of other awards from MNA.
For Iron Range Today, Leah is behind the scenes fine-tuning our operations, and aiding in planning and marketing.
Leah is also the President of the Virginia Community Foundation, and head coach of the Rock Ridge Speech team after being the Junior Varsity coach the last two seasons.
